Member Spotlight: Karen P
How long have you been a member of SPENGA?
I'm proud to be a founding member of SPENGA. (So, Karen has been with us since January of 2022.)
Fess up...RIDE, REP, REVIVE; which is your fave?!
Definitely REVIVE! It's such a wonderful ending to a workout.
How has SPENGA impacted your life?
The community and structure of SPENGA provides great accountability, makes workouts so much more enjoyable, and has helped me be consistent with my workouts. I've worked out off-and-on forever, but since becoming a member of SPENGA, I've been the most consistent with my workouts for the longest period of time. I've had a lot of pain in my lower back and hips in recent years and it has been very noticeably reduced since joining SPENGA. I believe the regular strength training and Yoga has made all the difference.
What's your favorite thing(s) to do, when you aren't WERKing out at SPENGA?
I love reading and learning and spending time with my 3 daughters and close friends.
What's your favorite local restaurant?
Ocean Grill never disappoints.
What's something most people don't know about you?
My late brother and I are not even a year apart. For two weeks each year we were the same age.
What's the best piece of advice you can give someone just starting out on their fitness journey?
Start at a pace and schedule you are comfortable with and fits well with your lifestyle. If your workout schedule goes against the grain of your day-to-day obligations, it'll be easy to make excuses and not show up. It may take a little trial and error to get right, but it's worth putting forth the effort so you reach your goals. A steady pace of progression is important. If you go too hard too fast, you'll hate your workouts, burn-out quickly, and be tempted to quit altogether.
I'm beyond grateful for Christi, the SPENGA staff, and the rest of all my amazing, encouraging SPENGA fam!
